A BALLYMONEY dad, who delivered his daughter's baby at home, has spoken of his relief at the safe delivery.
Speaking exclusively to the Chronicle he relived the powerful emotions felt by his family and the trust that existed between himself and his brave daughter during this very special birth.
The emergency began for 17 year old Karen Phillips when she started to give birth in the bathroom of their flat in Henry Street Muse in Ballymoney just after 8am on Saturday January 9.
Dad Billy Phillips was on his way down the hall to get the car to take his pregnant daughter to the hospital.
Other daughter Laura heard her sister's cries from the bathroom as she said: "Karen went into early labour about 7am. After she went to the bathroom, I heard her shout out and went in and saw that she was in the labour position. I saw that the baby was coming!"
“I shouted my dad and when he came I grabbed him and shoved him in the bathroom and rang the ambulance. The ambulance men talked us through it. It was very emotional."
Dad Billy takes up the story saying: "I had only got down the hall going to the car when Laura shouted: 'It's too late for the car' I came back and she shoved me into the bathroom. I saw that the baby was coming."
