Mary Kate said ‘yes’ after opening Kinder Surprise! thumbnailMillside Restaurant in Cloughmills played host to a really special event with a heart-warming romantic story involving a local couple.

EVERY now and again the Millside Restaurant in Cloughmills plays host to a really special event and one night recently was such an occasion with a heart-warming romantic story involving a local couple.
Martin Graham from Ahoghill took long term girlfriend Mary Kate McCoy, back to the restaurant where they had their very first date for a very special surprise.
Mary Kate said: "We have been together for over four years, our first date was to the Millside in Cloughmills then the cinema. Its a beautiful restaurant, I was surprised he was taking me out for dinner but il take it when its going!
“I didn't notice anything odd, desert time and he ordered a sundae. I still didn't know, the waitress was hinting at me to make sure I ate the egg, I started eating but hadn't opened the surprise! Marty wanted to know what it was so I opened it. Went quiet, laughed and put the ring on, I'm a very happy girl!!
“The restaurant gave us champagne they were great!! We couldn't even eat the dessert I think we were both too excited. Marty was freaking out, but It was a definite yes - he's OK now if someone wants to plan me a wedding they can feel free!"
A spokesperson for Millside restaurant said the response was 'phenomenal' commenting: "As there would be no prior warning for Mary Kate, Martin planned his strategy with the help of our staff who came up with the idea of concealing the ring in a Kinder Surprise.
“The moment of truth would arrive when the dessert was being served with Mary Kate asked to open the egg clearly unaware of what was inside. It was a nervy moment for Martin but to his relief Mary Kate readily accepted the proposal.
“Our staff were delighted as they had been watching with anticipation throughout the evening hoping that everything would go allright.
“We were delighted to have played a large part in helping Martin leave his fiancé speechless but equally thrilled with the Kinder surprise."
