THREE members of Ballymoney MS have been recognised for their long standing efforts at the recent MS Society Celebrating Volunteers Awards at Queen's University's Riddell Hall. Daphne Bustard, Janette Reid and Garth Magee all attended the evening hosted by UTV's Paul Reilly highlighting the fantastic contribution of volunteers working with and for people with MS.
There were Ballymoney winners in each awards category, with Garth picking up a 'Volunteer Award' while Daphne and Janette each picked up the Society's most prestigious 'Shining Star' award.
Ballymoney MS Treasurer Daphne and current Chairman Janette between them have over 50 years of service to people affected by MS and the MS Society in Ballymoney.
These dedicated fundraisers have also worked hard to ensure services for people with MS and their families are available in the Ballymoney area.
Daphne, who stared volunteering for MS 35 years ago, said: "I was completely shocked, surprised and honoured to have been named a 'Shining Star'.
“I started shortly after I moved to the area when a friend of my mother in law, Mrs Dunlop, asked me to drive her to the committee meetings and I just joined the committee with her."
“I have kept doing it for so long because it's a job needs doing and I do it, I couldn't not do it. Over the years it's been very nice to get to know people afflicted with MS.
