Foodbank annual Tesco collection gets underway thumbnailPeter Rollins, Suzanne Blair, John McClements, Lorna Archibald, Mervyn Storey and Jackie Logan at the Food Collection point in Tescos Ballymoney last year, where Ballymoney Foodbank were collecting donations.

BALLYMONEY Foodbank will return to Tesco this weekend for their annual Christmas collection and this year they are also appealing for gloves, socks and toiletries.
The Foodbank provide three days' nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. They are part of a nationwide network of Foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK.
Peter Rollins explained: "This is our third December collection and we are now giving out food to over 1800 people since we opened in February 2014, and over 600 children. Now it may not be 600 separate children, it can include repeats but that isn't good either. We have been really busy.
“Thanks to the generosity of the public we gather in a lot of food throughout the Christmas period and we need more food coming in as there is more going out.
“Volunteers will man the stalls all weekend providing guidance on the items we require. We will distribute leaflets as shoppers enter the supermarket and direct them as our stock will constantly change throughout the day, something we may not have much of in the morning may be over stocked by the afternoon.
