BALLYMONEY Black Santa, Liam Beckett, has rewarded himself with a well deserved Christmas dinner after embracing another year of hail, rain and rarely shine to help raise funds for five local charities.
The 65-year-old embodies the Christmas Spirit as he braves the elements for a fortnight each year to help raise funds for The Samaritans, Salvation Army, St Vincent de Paul, Drop Inn Ministries and Compass CAN.
Speaking just before Christmas Liam, who is an Ambassador for the Samaritans and Patron for CAN explained: "I always give to the same five charities, charities that are close to my heart.
“Somebody who donates 10p is just as important to me as someone who donates a lot of money. I mean that's what Christmas is suppose to be about, the joy of giving, its the time of year to share what we have to help those less fortunate. One child brought his savings from his pocket money in a tin which totalled 58. Another gentleman donated his loose changed which totalled 192 from over the year. The generosity of the Ballymoney people is just unreal. I even had a motorbike fan from England send over a donation!"
