BARK appeal

Thursday, 5 January 2017

THE CHARITY Co-Ordinator of a big local rescue kennel has urged new dog owners to 'persevere' with their Christmas pets, should they be tempted to abandon them in the weeks ahead. Shaun, of Benvardin Animal Rescue Kennels (BARK) told the Chronicle that widespread new year abandonment is a myth, but added that it wouldn't be long before some new owners will start having second thoughts.
Shaun said: "It's a big myth that people abandon their dogs in the new year, if people have got a pup for Christmas the novelty is still there.
"It's February or March when we start seeing dogs coming in. The dogs are then five or six months old, they are getting bigger, they maybe are having difficulty getting house trained and stuff like that.
