Store plan is ‘shovel ready’ thumbnailRecently cleared site behind the shops at Castlecroft in Ballymoney that it is hoped will be a discount superstore before Christmas.

THE Developers of a brand new build 'discount' store on the vacant site behind Castlecroft in Ballymoney are hoping to have it built and opened before next Christmas. Speaking to the Chronicle, a source close to the project revealed that most planning issues have now been resolved and expressed optimism that full planning permission will be granted in time to allow construction to take place over the summer.
Confirming that the store was a "discount store" selling value for money items, the source said: "This project is happening, we are shovel ready, we are working through the planning process with the council."
The source refused to be drawn on who the tenant would be, neither confirming or denying speculation that it would be 'The Range' discount store.
The person would only say that a Northern Ireland construction firm would be doing the build with the eventual occupier being a UK wide discount chain.
Just after the planning application was submitted in September, we reported that up to £2m was being invested, in, as the planning notice stated, a "Retail Unit with Parking, service yard, access road, boundary treatments, and associated site works...on lands between the rear of 11-39 Main Street Ballymoney and Shiels Court and the rear of 16-26 Charlotte Street."
