ONE OF Ballymoney's best known public houses has made a substantial donation to a cancer charity and has given the credit for the fund-raising to its customers.
Management and staff at the Northern Star took a relaxed approach to collecting mainly with raffles held over several months but one regular patron, Paul Farley, attracted a great deal of interest when he agreed to have his head shaved on the premises.
According to proprietor, Julie Woods, the customers were fantastic and over seven months almost 2000 has been raised. Last Thursday Julie presented three representatives from Macmillan Cancer Care, Anna White, Barbara Logan and John Dunlop, with a cheque for 1000 which was greatly appreciated.
Julie said: "We decided that anything we raised would be shared with a number of charities. Macmillan got first and others will follow."
She added: "We are planning a more ambitious fund-raiser with a parachute jump in February which should be exciting."
Julie has paid a glowing tribute to the Northern Star customers saying how generous and giving they have been.
“We hope to collect quite a bit in the coming months and will be delighted to see a worthy charity benefit from our efforts," she added.
