A GARRYDUFF man is hoping to make a difference in the fight against cancer by running the London Marathon to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Matthew Campbell hopes to raise 5000 for the charity, in what is his first ever marathon, taking place on Sunday April 23 this year.
Matthew grew up on dairy farm and is a Civil Engineer currently employed on a tunnelling project in London, where he has worked for six years.
He said: "I applied to run the London Marathon as a challenge for myself and to raise cash for Cancer Research UK due to the great work they do trying to beat cancer sooner.
“In recent years myself and my wife's family have been affected by cancer with family members currently receiving treatment in London and in Northern Ireland!"
Not surprisingly, Matthew's wife Alison and his parents Mary and Wilson have been very supportive as are other family members who have been sponsoring him.
A field of around 38,000 competitors, including serious and fun runners, are expected to take part in this year's Virgin Money London Marathon.
