Social Centre decision ‘called in’ thumbnail

THE future of Ballymoney's Edward Street Social Centre has again been thrown up into the air by a 'call in' of a council decision to take ownership and re-furbish the facility.
Ballymoney DUP Cllr Ian Stevenson, whose prolonged lobbying on behalf of the Social Centre, finally bore fruit, only to be snatched away again, has said he is "extremely disappointed" at the move.
However Sinn Fein and SDLP councillors say they made this 'call in', which obliges Causeway Coast and Glens Council (CC&G) to take legal advice over the decision, because the business case doesn't stack up.
The latest instalment in this long running saga began at the full CC&G council meeting on Tuesday March 28 when the main unionist parties were finally persuaded of the merits of taking over the facility, ratifying a decision to that effect.
