Thursday, 13 April 2017
THE father of a ten year-old schoolboy left with severe brain injuries following a road traffic accident at the start of this year has paid tribute to local people for their help and support as they continue to deal with the consequences.
Liam McCallum, then aged nine, was left in a coma by the side of the road after being struck by a car whilst playing near the family home in Liscolman on the afternoon of January 10.
The Straidbilly PS pupil was treated at the scene before being rushed to Causeway Hospital from where he was air-lifted by police ambulance to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.
He underwent a series of operations in the Royal and is expected to remain in hospital for a further nine months as he continues with his recovery.
