Olivia’s lost poems printed thumbnail

THE AUSPICIOUS surroundings of the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) in Dublin was recently the setting for a significant moment in the social, literary and cultural history of Aghadowey and the wider area.
Upwards of 40 people attended the launch of a book of poems by forgotten 18th Century poet Olivia Elder, described by the volume's editor Professor Andrew Carpenter as "outspoken" and "highly distinctive."
Ballymoney academic Dr Linde Lunney who assisted Prof Carpenter in his research, read out three poems, bringing, according to Dr Cathy Hayes, "the language and rhymes alive to the delight of the gathering."
