THE official opening of the 55 million Frosses Road dual carriageway will take place later this month (June). Updating Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council on the project's progress, the Department for Infrastructure's Divisional Roads Manager Deidre Mackle told councillors: "Rapid progress has been made; we have tried to mitigate the impact on landowners and manage traffic.
“We are delighted with the product which will open up the North Coast and hopefully kick-start further economic growth in the area.
“This project will realise significant benefits for both the local community and commuters by improving both journey times and journey time reliability for this stretch of the A26, thus reducing driver frustration and improving the safety performance of the route for all road users."
Ms Mackle warned, however, that budgetary pressures would have a 'knock-on' effect on services, including routine maintenance of the road network.
She said: "In this area, the Department is likely to be reliant on additional resources becoming available. We understand the implications of the limited service and its long term impacts on the network and we are doing our best to deliver routine maintenance within the allocated budget.
