A FARMER, approached by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to lease a field for a car park at the Dark Hedges, has hit back at their "ludicrous" offer.
David Laverty, from Armoy, owns land along the Bregagh Road and was recently asked by Council officials if he would be happy to rent them a two acre plot.
Speaking to The Chronicle, Mr Laverty said he was offered 1,000 to allow up to 40 cars and six tour buses to park at the world famous tourist hot spot.
However, the butcher shop owner says the sums simply don't stack up as he would have to bring in a digger to improve access to the field for motoritsts.
“Council have approached me, but with an offer like that I'm not in the least bit interested," he said. "1,000 a year to lease a field is a ludicrous amount.
“They must have thought I was a nutter. If they had come with a sensible offer we could've talked about it but they haven't been in touch with me since.
