PLANS to close one of the main shopping streets in Ballymoney to traffic for two weeks to lay gas pipelines has been blasted by traders.
Mains laying work started yesterday (Monday) on Victoria Street as part of a programme by firmus energy to extend their natural gas network, with Linenhall Street, Charlotte Street, Church Street and Main Street also being affected in the coming months.
350 properties will be connected as a result, but Church Street trader Mr Jonathan Gault says he will do "practically no business" during his street closure from September 11 to 25.
firmus energy have rejected his appeal that the work be done at night, saying: "Pedestrian areas should be unaffected by the works and pedestrian access will be maintained to all businesses."
Mr Gault of Robert Gaults is encouraging people to go to Thursday's 'information evening' at the Town Hall to voice their objections.
