PUBLIC outrage at damage being done to the Dark Hedges by the unregulated access of vehicles and visitors has come to a head with an Armoy mum's concerned petition getting over 2600 signatures in the last week.
Glenda Trolland, who started her petition on Monday July 31 says she is "amazed" at the response which has exceeded her expectations by 10 fold.
“It's overwhelming to know that the locals are not the only ones who are angered by what is happening," she said, as she hopes to put pressure on the authorities to put parking restrictions in place and impose penalties on those caught vandalising the trees.
In a separate development the Joint Coordinator of the recent KK McArthur 'Festival of Running' Frank McLernon, revealed to The Chronicle the negative feedback received from visitors and runners at the event, saying "the stretch that dominates the actual 'Dark Hedges' was lying in deep pools of water, with large pot-holes and tourists who are a constant obstacle for frequent road users in that area."
On the same day as Glenda started her petition Dervock Community Association Frankie Cunningham visited the site to find whole stretches of road underwater with a manhole gushing water.
