DALRIADA School Principal Tom Skelton is currently undertaking school crossing patrol duties after the Education Authority failed to employ a new patroller in time for the new term.
A school patrol person normally operates between the highly congested North Road and Model School Road in Ballymoney during busy school mornings, which see dozens of cars arrive and hundreds of pupils crossing the road.
It is understood that the previous 'lolly-pop man' retired in June 2017 and it was thought the Education Authority would have a new patroller in place for the new school year.
Speaking to Dalriada School Principal Tom Skelton, he told the Chronicle that he felt a "duty of care" to take up the post himself which is also shared between Vice Principal.
