Get tough on dog foulers! thumbnailUUP Cllr Darryl Wilson. SPB46-101

A BALLYMONEY councillor has called for more Fixed Penalty Notices to be handed out for dog fouling in the town in the coming year after it was revealed that none were issued in the past year.
While other councillors discussing the matter at last week's Environmental Services committee meeting called for increased fines and improved enforcement across the whole Causeway Coast and Glens area.
UUP Cllr Darryl Wilson raised the matter, wanting to know how many people had been fined in Ballymoney over the last 12 months.
He was told by Director Aidan McPeake that no fines had been issued, however he added that there had been a substantial decrease in the number of complaints. He said there were 63 complaints in 2015/16; 69 in 2016/17 and only 12 so far this year 2017/18.
“These figures were consistent with what was happening across the borough," he said, "they are definitely a decrease, it's people's perception that there is less fouling. It's very positive."
