BALLYMONEY'S Alan Carmichael has admitted he could be tempted to switch to the BTRDA Rally Championship in 2018.
Carmichael paid his first visit to an English event for the first time on Saturday in almost a decade.
He brought his Mini Countryman World Rally Car home in fifth position on the Grizedale Stages Rally.
But for a small mistake at a tightening hairpin on the third stage and wiper issues on the penultimate test when the heavens opened, Carmichael believes he could have ended the day on the podium.
“If someone had offered me that before the rally started I would have happily settled for it," he told Chronicle Sport. "To come away with fifth on our first attempt at the rally is a very pleasing result.
“We had a few problems during the course of the day between dropping the Mini into a ditch on the second stage as we tried to get past a stricken car and losing the wipers towards the end, but on the whole I am really happy. I don't think the setbacks took the shine off our performance because - on another day - the minute-or-so that we lost could be the difference between fifth place and third. When everything is working well the Mini it feels fantastic on gravel. The conditions really helped us as well. That allowed us to really attack sections and gave us an idea of how we stack up against the BTRDA boys.
