Nationalist anger at St Pat’s Day ‘exclusion’

Thursday, 21 December 2017

The SDLP and Sinn Fein have expressed outrage at the absence of St Patrick's Day celebrations on next year's schedule of council-run events.
The list was published ahead of the December meeting of the Leisure and Development Committee last Tuesday.
It includes regulars like the NW200 race week festival, the Airshow and the Old Lammas Fair. A new addition is the inclusion of Armed Forces Day on June 23.
However, when Sinn Fein's Brenda Chivers questioned the absence of St Patrick's Day, she was told members had agreed the schedule and the event's team simply had no further resources.
Cllr Chivers said she was "very disappointed" but her disappointment turned to anger when staff confirmed none of the events focused on Limavady.
