BALLYMONEY played host to a very special guest yesterday (Monday) when the most senior American diplomat in Northern Ireland visited a number of facilities and organisations in the town.
United States Consul General for Northern Ireland Mr Daniel J Lawton visited Dalriada School, Ballymoney Museum, the Ullans Centre and US firm Terex, among other places.
Mr Lawton told the Chronicle: "It is always a pleasure to come to this region especially in the light of all the cultural and economic ties that exist between here and the USA.
“I was fascinated to hear that this region will commemorate the 300th anniversary of the large 1718 migration to the new world, next year.
“We all have a lot to gain from the transatlantic dialogue involving people on both sides of the Atlantic
“Modern technology shortens the distance and one of the lessons we have to learn is how these early immigrants contributed greatly to the development and prosperity of the USA."
Mr Lawton thanked all in Ballymoney for their welcome.
