BALLYMONEY'S Liam Beckett has said that he is "extremely humbled and absolutely delighted" to have been awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year's honours list.
Liam, 66, who has just finished his 10th annual stint as Black Santa, raising thousands for local charities, has picked up the award for Services to Sport and the Voluntary Sector in Northern Ireland.
Liam said that when got the very "posh" letter, with a "parliament" stamp on it, he didn't know if it was a "stitch up" or not.
He said: "I've been caught with pranks from friends before several times, but when I read a second time, that 'The Prime Minister Teresa May has requested the Queen to bestow the honour of MBE on you...', I realised it was real and I must say I was in a state of shock, for once I was speechless.
“I am filled with immense pride that a working class lad from Ballymoney who came up hard, was suddenly invited to the Palace to be honoured in this way.
