GERMAN supermarket giant Lidl have refused to deny speculation that they are eyeing up a larger site in Ballymoney not far from their existing premises.
Speculation has been raging that Lidl are planning to move from their existing location on Meetinghouse Street, to a new, larger site across the road on the same street, owned by Taggart & Co Ltd, currently a builders yard.
When asked by The Chronicle if Lidl were moving to a larger premises, they said that are "not in a position to comment on this site at present."
Lidl Northern Ireland did confirm to The Chronicle that they are looking at "many larger sites all over Northern Ireland".
In a statement the supermarket chain said, "We are looking at many larger sites all over Northern Ireland to accommodate our increasing needs as Northern Ireland's fastest growing retailer, however we are not in a position to comment on this site at present."
The Chronicle made several attempts to contact Taggart and Co LTD to confirm whether or not Lidl are in fact interested in, or had already purchased their site, but they did not get back in time for press.
Winnie Mellett, President of Ballymoney Chamber of Commerce, said she would welcome "anything of economic value to Ballymoney."
