Pitch proposal provokes concern thumbnailProtesting residents from Bushmills concerned about plans to change sporting facilities at Dundarave into a car park and ride facility for the National Trust. CC04-70s

NORTH Antrim MP Ian Paisley has been presented with a petition calling for the preservation of the football pitch and sports changing facilities at Dundarave in Bushmills.
The petition, signed by almost 900 people, highlights fears that plans are in the pipeline to remove the playing area and green space beside the Dundarave housing estate and expand the car park making it the main destination terminus for those who choose to visit Bushmills and then park and ride to the Causeway.
The petition reads: "Dundarave football pitch is a valuable asset to the local community which has recently been improved with the erecting of fencing and the addition of changing rooms. We are therefore alarmed by suggestions that the pitch may be turned into a park and ride facility for The National Trust, the Trust should understand the importance of outdoor life including sports, we call for the retention of the football pitch at its current location, moving it would represent an unacceptable waste of public money given the funds which have been spent on bringing the current site up to standard".
