'Brain cavity doctor' leads Causeway hospital tribute thumbnailDr Finlay Brown. WK11-015CR

A DOCTOR who treated a case so unusual it featured in the British Medical Journal and several national newspapers, has paid tribute to Causeway Hospital colleagues.
Coleraine man, Finlay Brown was part of the medical team which discovered a 9cm air pocket inside the brain of an 84-year-old patient.
After witnessing the teamwork that went into diagnosis and treatment, he said it confirmed his view that the Causeway Hospital was "an incredible asset."
The case began with a GP referral of a man complaining of recurrent falls and feeling unsteady over several months.
He then developed a 3-day history of left-sided arm and leg weakness but no confusion, facial weakness, visual or speech disturbance.
Dr Brown who was on-call for Causeway's Medical Admissions said there was nothing unusual about the admission.
It was only after viewing astonishing CT scan images that his team realised this was anything but a routine case.
