A BALLYMONEY doctor intending to travel 14,000 miles to central Asia in a Fiat Panda 'banger' has said he is feeling "very nervous" at the prospect of travelling through some of the most politically turbulent nations on earth.
Dr Michael Monteith, born and raised in Ballymoney, but now working as an A&E Doctor in Manchester, is starting on this 14,000 mile trip in July with two friends to raise money for Macmillan, in memory of his 'nan'.
Ex-Dalriada pupil Michael said: "It isn't an event designed for speed but one of endurance, challenges and adventure, all in the name of charity. The rules stipulate that you have to buy a car that is 1.2L engine or less to ensure that the journey isn't smooth and requires you to use your wits at every moment."
“We have called ourselves 'destined to flail' and bought a 1.2L 4x4 Fiat Panda with 96,000 miles on it.
