SUPERMARKET chain Lidl has confirmed that it has submitted plans to develop a new and enlarged state-of-the-art store in Ballymoney as part of its major investment and growth plans in Northern Ireland.
Designed to provide a high-quality shopping environment with more space, wider aisles, longer tills, restrooms and baby-changing facilities, the 'new concept' store will be located at a larger site opposite its existing Meetinghouse Street store in the town centre, which will remain open until the new store is complete.
Northern Ireland's fastest-growing retailer opened its first modern 'new concept' store in Banbridge in December 2015. Since then, they have been developed in Belfast, Lurgan, and, more recently, Magherafelt.
Boasting greater access, energy efficiency and warehouse space, the new store is expected to open in Spring 2019.
Confirming the plans, Lidl NI regional director Conor Boyle said: "We're delighted that our exciting new plans are now firmly under way and that shoppers in Ballymoney and the surrounding area will soon enjoy a brand new and enhanced Lidl shopping experience.
“Delivering top quality products at market-leading prices remains our commitment and together with our local team, we look forward to continuing to serve the people of Ballymoney for many years to come."
Lidl, which first opened in Ballymoney in 1999, is hosting an event to provide the public with information about its new store plan on Thursday,  May 24, at its Meetinghouse Street store from 1pm to 5pm and everyone is welcome to attend.
Since it launched its Community Works initiative, Lidl has raised thousands of pounds in funding and provided practical help to more than 700 community groups and charities, including The Open Door centre in Ballymoney.
