Paying tribute to a legend thumbnailThe late Alex Blair. WK35KC56BM

MOURNERS came from far and wide to Kilraughts Presbyterian Church for the Service of Thanksgiving for the life of  Mr S Alex Blair last Wednesday July 4.
Mr Blair had been laid to rest in the family plot adjoining the church the previous day after a private funeral service attended by about 20 of his closest family and friends.
Kilraughts Minister Rev. Noel McClean had cut short his holiday in Scotland and returned home when he heard  the news.
Speaking to a packed church at the Service of Thanksgiving Rev. McClean said Alex's death had, "shocked the entire community," not only locally but "far and wide."
“We will never see his face again or benefit from his conversation and all the stories that made Alex such a legendry figure with such a wealth of knowledge."
After Rev. McClean's tribute (see adjoining page), the Rev. Stanley Stewart of Castlerock said a prayer on behalf of the family, his wife Valerie being one of Alex's closest relatives.
Rev. Stewart said that: "Alex had a long life, lived well," and had been a great supporter of the community through his lifelong involvement in many organisations and though his many friendships.
One of the many mourners at the service, was Mr Donal O'Hanlon Chair of the Newpoint Players, Newry who have performed at the Ballymoney Drama Festival for 30 years in a row.
Mr O'Hanlon said: "We have attended 30 festivals on the trot and the linch pin for us in that was Alex as secretary.
“Whether there was good adjudication or bad Alex was always there in the tea room to give support and say all that was good about the performances."
Speaking from London, Director of Newpoint Players Sean Treanor added "Ballymoney will never be the same without him, especially at  festival time. We have lost a man of great intelligence
