An unimpressed manager Joe McCall watches as his side lose to Portadown.
DESPITE losing 3-1 to Portadown on Friday night, Ballymoney United manager Joe McCall was far from despondent.
In fact he was pleased with the character and spirit his players displayed and they go into tonight's (Tuesday) first round, second leg game against the ports with still a lifeline of being able to progress.
“I think 3-1 was a fair result," commented Joe. "Their first and second goals we could probably have done better but their third was just a wonder strike. I thought we played very well when we were under pressure for long periods and after we scored what was a very good goal, they were sort of rocked on their heels a bit.
“It means going into the second leg if we could win 2-0 we could go through because of the away goal. I know it is a big ask, but if come at them early on and maybe get an early goal. It is still a life line and I know the lads will give 110%.
“Portadown are a top team, they are a top four premiership side and i was delighted that we performed the way we did, especially away from home.
“I have everyone fit for tonight's match with the addition of two guys who were missing on Friday and that gives me more options to play with.
“WE have a lot of games ahead and we have had a good start apart from the slip up at Limavady. If you had asked me a month ago would I take the start we have had I would have said yes! We are competing well and playing well and we just need to remain focused and build on it."
