MEGAN Frazer returned to the Ballymoney 1st XI setup and inspired the defending Premier League champions to take all three points at Lisnagarvey on Saturday.
Frazer broke the deadlock in the first half with Katie Mullan also adding to the score-line to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at half-time while further goals from Susie Martin, Jessica Lynch and Mullan again ensured Ballymoney kept the pressure on leaders Pegasus. The convincing victory this week was not only testament to the presence of the returning Frazer but also to the development of a strong Ballymoney squad who are gaining in confidence each week.
The whistle blew for pass back and Ballymoney immediately started on the attack but 'Garvey were ready for them and pushed back into the Ballymoney half.
In the fifth minute 'Garvey had a short corner strike but it was confidently cleared by Angela Platt in goals. Play then went the other way with Ballymoney gaining the first of many short corners in this game, Susie Martin having a go which went just wide.
Play continued to go back and forth with both teams trying to establish themselves, and 'Garvey had another short corner after some pressure but this was saved of the line by Katie Mullan.
The return of Megan Frazer was much appreciated when, in the 29th minute, she made a great run the whole way along the back line, tricking the keeper and calmly flicking the ball into the goal. This settled Ballymoney who continued to pile on the pressure, resulting in a another great solo performance, this time by Katie Mullan, who collected the ball on the 25, dribbled in and scored in the 31st minute.
The 2-0 lead bolstered Ballymoney and they started the second half in the same manner they finished the first.
Multiple short corners were the product of continued pressure and great passing play by Ballymoney. Susie Martin scored from a straight strike at a short corner in the 11th minute.
Another four short corners followed with some admirable play by the Lisnagarvey defence. Jessica Lynch converted the fourth with a great deflection high into the goal in the 31 minute. Ballymoney kept pushing on and got another goal in the 34th minute, Katie Mullan scoring an excellent reverse stick shot to wrap up a comfortable 5-0 win.
