BALLYMONEY Cycling Club held their Achievement Awards presentation on Friday night at the Joey Dunlop Centre.
Over 60 friends, riders and family assembled to hear the club chairman Charlie Dickson welcome everyone to this special family event.
The Cycling Ulster Club of the Year has made massive steps in the past two years, with over 40 first placings and dozens of top 10 finishes by its racers.
The club has seen its membership grow each year and this new year 2012 will see the biggest growth yet of school and junior members. A total to date of 17 boys and girls will take part in the different disciplines of road and off road racing, and with track racing being made so popular by Sir Chris Hoy (Team Sky Racing) some of the BCC riders are going to the track to try their hand at this specialised event.
The awards and trophies on the night were presented by BCC race secretary Aaron Dickie and club PRO Maurice McAllister.
The season long Road Race League was won by club hard man Wayne Stevens. Wayne is one of the driving forces behind the 'Bike Pure' initiative that BCC are now involved in and is keen to see drugs driven out of all sports. He also was presented with the Millbrae Hill Climb trophy, the Ernie Magwood Interclub and BCC Best all Rounder 2011.
The BCC Flying 10TT Championship was won by club favourite Jason Taggart. Jason did a super time on the Ballybogey line of 22.04.
The BCC Road Race Championship held on the tough Tullaghans circuit was won for the second year by Steven McAllister, who also won the
Time Trial League trophy, the Girls Club Champion was Ellen McAree.
McAllister also won the BCC 25 mile Championship trophy in a time of 56 minutes on the Portrush/Coleraine course.
Other girls award winner was Caitie O'Hagan, who was the first girl in the Road Race League. Caitie this year will be riding for her Dad's new cycling team in Loughguile.
A special award, The Mick Hill Endeavour trophy for the club's most improved/improving never say die rider of 2011, was awarded to under 16 rider Stuart Laverty. Stuart has excelled not only on the road but enjoyed top five placings in the end of season off road events.
