THERE'S little rest for the Dalriada 1st XV after their second round replay win over Portora Royal School as they are straight back into Schools' Cup action this weekend when they host Regent House at St James' Road on Saturday morning.
Dalriada finally shook off the Enniskillen school 20-18 but not without coming from behind for the second week in a row.
In an almost carbon copy of last week's game, Dalriada deservedly led at the break 12-3 after dominating the first half, only for Portora to come out in the second half and not only claw their way back into the game but take the lead at 18-12, but with 10 minutes remaining, the Dalriada backs drove over the Portora try line to regain the lead 20-18 and hold out for the win.
Jack Magee crossed the endline for the second week in a row, which was converted by John Laughlin to give Dalriada a 7-0 lead in the first half that became a 12-0 one when Johnny Allen also touched down, but Portora showed a glimpse of what was to come in the second half when they got on the scoreboard just before the break to leave the scores 12-3.
The visitors' purple patch continued after the restart with a penalty and then a converted try to put them into the lead for the first time 13-12, and that soon became 18-12 as Dalriada's hopes of winning seemed to be dwindling. But instead, it was the wake-up call they needed and Laughlin clawed back the deficit with a penalty before the backs and Timmy Woods with the vital touch down stepped up to the mark.
