ON Saturday the Ballymoney First XI hosted Knock at home as part of their league campaign. After a series of disappointing results, the 'money girls were determined to put in a good performance.
Ballymoney applied the pressure from the starting whistle, winning a short corner in the second minute. However despite a well worked corner they were unable to score. This was also the case for the three corners that followed. Despite this, Ballymoney still created havock for the Knock defence with Megan Frazer narrowly missing a reverse strike. The girls continued to win corners and eventually in the 20th minute Susie Martin got a rebound off the keeper and slotted the ball into the top of the net, putting Ballymoney 1-0 up.
The 'Money girls came out strong in the second half, winning a short corner in the 1st minute and again in the fourth. Which saw Nikki McCaughern receive a pass from across the circle and deflect it towards Megan Frazer who skilfully put the ball into the back of the net, leaving the score 2-0 to Ballymoney. Megan continued to put pressure on the Knock defence, when she broke free and beat three players and the goal keeper before scoring her second goal of the day. Less than a minute later, Nikki McCaughern followed, scoring from a deflection. In the 15th minute, another corner resulted in a Ballymoney goal after a good strike from Catherine McCauley was rebounded off the keeper for Lauren Barr to slot into the net.
Catherine had another chance on goal a few minutes later, and this time a strike from the top of the circle resulted in a goal, putting Ballymoney 6-0 up. Ballymoney's defence also put in a solid performance throughout the game, without conceding any goals and only one short corner in the dying minutes which Knock failed to convert thanks to a brilliant double save from Sammy Jo Greer.
At the final whistle, the score was 6-0 to Ballymoney.
