BALLYMONEY preserved their perfect start to the league with another bonus point victory, this time against Monaghan RFC.
The home side made a number of changes, with Matthew Steele and Neil Mullholland unavailable and Nathanial McCollum still struggling with a knee injury he had picked up the previous week. That left him on the bench among the other substitutes.
On a more positive note the home side welcomed back Michael Allen from a long layout; he took his place in the back row.
Ballymoney put pressure on the visitor right from the off with strong defending limiting the visitors from making up any ground. The line-out in recent weeks had been functioning strongly and it set up a number of early attacks for the backs but a number of handling errors let Monaghan off the hook and the game remained scoreless.
The visitors were unable to handle physical runs from Blair, McFetridge and Watson who all made good metres and it was from one of these breaks that took play into the Monaghan five metre line. Scrum-half Linton moved the ball to the forwards, who were held up short, but quick play by wing forward Allen saw him pick at the base of the ruck and show good power to force his way over from short range for the opening try. Young's conversion was successful and the home team lead 7-0.
