Schools' Tournament
Ballybrakes Community Indoor Bowling Club hosted an Inter primary Schools' Tournament on Thursday, November 17 and what a fantastic morning it was.
Forty-eight P6 children from Millburn PS, Christie PS, Damhead PS, Lislagan PS, St Brigid's PS and Garryduff PS competed for the inaugural BCIBC Youth Development Trophy.
The young bowlers had the benefit of four weeks coaching at their schools using 'New Age bowls' in order to prepare for the event.
In fact, although only 48 participated in the event, some 180 kids were actually introduced to bowls during this initiative but only eight would be selected for each team.
After a closely-fought contest, Millburn Primary School were the eventual winners.
“However, the sport of bowls was the real winner and it was great to see such potential talent on display and having loads of fun on the bowling green," said a spokesperson.
“Many thanks to the teachers, the parents and especially to Stephen McCartney and John Fall from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for all their help."
As a follow-up to this event, the stadium is hosting a Junior Club, starting on Thursday, November 24 at 6.30pm.
