BALLYMONEY First XI came close to snatching a draw against a strong Lurgan side on Saturday. The hosts started with promise, moving the ball around the pitch with confidence which allowed them to apply pressure on the opposing team's defence. At the other end defenders Ruth Sutherland and Bridget Clelland made several important tackles before sending the ball into midfield where Laura McCurdy, Rachel Minihan and Katherine Minihan tried to create opportunities.
However, Lurgan matched this play throughout the first-half and made it difficult for Ballymoney to get the ball near the goal. With both sides cancelling the other the first half finished goalless.
In the second half Ballymoney raised the intensity further. Forwards Jessica Moore, Katherine Gawand Nicky Parke made some lovely runs but despite their hard work Lurgan managed to win a penalty corner from a promising attack and from this they went a goal ahead.
