BALLYMONEY Fourths secured a resounding second round McCambley Cup victory over derby rivals Coleraine at the weekend.
The River Ridge sponsored Ballymoney side - the current holders of the McCambley Cup - continued their good recent form, scoring six tries without reply to secure the bragging rights over their closest neighbours for the second time this season.
Scrum half Scott Nelson, making his debut for the fours, opened the scoring midway through the first half after cleverly spotting a gap in the Coleraine line. Nelson squeezed over despite the valiant efforts by the Coleraine defence. Cormac McCartney adding the conversion.
The home side's pack, led by Jason Taggart, were gradually gaining the upper hand in the exchanges up front. It was therefore no surprise when Ballymoney soon added to their lead when Prop Sam Bartlett powered over after a strong run.
Danny Platt was next on the score sheet, the number eight crossing the white line after a determined break from just outside the Coleraine ten metre line. Cormac McCartney added the conversion to leave the half-time score 19-0 in Ballymoney's favour.
