Carmichael fired up for title glory thumbnailAlan Carmichael is looking to use his Ulster Rally victory as a springboard for glory in the Northern Ireland Rally Championship this year.

BALLYMONEY'S Alan Carmichael insists finishing second in the Northern Ireland Rally Championship is not an option this season and believes he can finally end Derek McGarrity's winning streak in the competition. Carmichael will launch his bid for the title in a Mini John Cooper Works World Rally Car at Kirkistown next weekend after securing funding from freight business Hireco to tackle all seven rounds with Ivor Lamont.
The deal was finalised over the Christmas holidays in a matter of days, according to Carmichael, who has made no secret of his wish to return to the championship on the best possible terms. "I've been working with Hireco in a business capacity for the last fifteen or sixteen years," he explained to Chronicle Sport.
