St Louis Ballymena beat Loreto in McLarnon Cup quarter-final replay

Thursday, 16 February 2017

ST. LOUIS Grammar School and Loreto College had to do it all again after their draw in the quarter finals of the McLarnon Cup, a late point saving the Ballymena school.
While in control they were hit by a late Loreto goal which would have knocked the stuffing out of any side but back they came with a Conor McAuley goal to earn another shot at a competition where they failed at the semi final stage last year.
Played at Owenbeg the Ballymena students, having earned their quarter final spot despite losing out to St Ciaran's Ballygawley in their final sectional game, were certainly up for this one, driven by the power of their students from the Cuchullians club Dunloy.
Conal Doherty-Cunning, goalkeeper Seaan Elliott and Conor Kinsella have been key players in their ranks and they again featured prominently against Loreto.
Loreto began this game strongly with an Aiden McGonigle point in the opening seconds settoing them on their way.
It got even better as Fergal Dillon, another Dunloy clubman, finished to the net after Conor Gillan and Sean Quinn set him up tp lead 1-1 to 0-1.
It could have been even better had McGonigle goal effort not gone over the bar at the end of the first quarter as the Coleraine school remained in charge.
