High five for Ballymoney Seconds thumbnailBallymoney’s Cathryn Knipe disputes possession with a North Down defender, during Saturday’s league game at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre.

BALLYMONEY Second XI welcomed North Down to North Antrim on Saturday in what proved to be a close fought encounter.
The first half was somewhat frantic for both sets of players, with Ballymoney applying early pressure to win a string of penalty corners.
In spite of finding themselves with lots of space from open play to test the Down goalie Ballymoney frustrated not to capitalise on this.
North Down stood firm at the back and were soon able to make some breakaway plays, but the Ballymoney defence were equally as strong.
It was late into the first half when the deadlock was finally broken.
A quick free from Elle Kirgan found an unmarked Emma McElwee in the circle before she smashed it past the goalkeeper with her first touch to send Ballymoney one nil up going in at the break.
With much-needed words of wisdom from coach Diane Kirgan, the girls went into the second half with a different energy and found themselves three nil up within the first five minutes.
Great defensive play and simple stick work allowed Olivia Linton to drive into the Down circle and lay the ball off to Emma McElwee who slotted it past the North Down goalkeeper for her second of the day.
