Antrim have no answer to Carlow’s mighty Doyle thumbnail

DESPITE the best efforts of their two most effective forwards, Ciaran Clarke and Neil McManus, Antrim were second best in this Christy Ring Cup final at Croke Park.
Starting favourites after three successful results against Carlow this year to date they were certainly turned over on this occasion.
Into the bargain they have had to go through the same torment as they did when beaten by Meath last year with no further progress to the Liam McCarthy Cup which was their ultimate goal. While they won't make it this year, hurling proposals for next year would see them part of the provincial qualifier group.
On this occasion they were beaten by a very strong Carlow outfit, equally intent on bettering themselves, and with 11 points separating the sides, it is not easy to make excuses for Antrim.
