Antrim miss out on final appearance to impressive Derry thumbnail

PRE-MATCH predictions suggested that this would be a tough test for Derry.
Antrim had run them to a point in the league and had beaten Donegal at Ballybofey in the first round.
Derry, to their credit, had seen off a very strong Tyrone team who had won the league.
From early on, Derry set down a marker and they had the game more or less won before Antrim had got a score. That was in the 25th minute but there had been a seven minute stoppage for an injury to an Antrim player.
In fairness to Antrim they battled back and in the second and third quarters gave as good as they got but they could never claw back the eight point deficit.
Derry blitzed them in the final quarter in which midfielder Oisin McWilliams from Swatragh who oozed quality all through hit two goals.
All six Derry forwards scored along with the aforementioned McWilliams as did three subs Mortimer, Brown and McHugh making it a total of ten scorers over the hour with 3-14 of the Derry total coming from open play. Once again the strength of the panel was evident and for the final against either Cavan or Down the Derry management will have a headache picking their starting fifteen such is the strength of their panel.
