THIS truly is a golden period for golf in the north west of Ireland.
Royal Portrush got the ball rolling with a memorable staging of the Irish Open in 2012 and that was followed by last week's memorable affair in Portstewart.
The Open Championship is pencilled in for the Dunluce Links two years from now while it was revealed on Sunday that Ballyliffin Golf Club in county Donegal is the chosen venue for next summer's Irish Open.

Announcing the news at a press conference at Portstewart on Sunday, the Chief Executive of the European Tour Keith Pelley claimed that one of the many positives of the Rolex Series - of which the Irish Open is a part - is the quality of the courses.
“In terms of links golf we are truly blessed on that score in Ireland as we have seen this week in Portstewart and I am delighted that another gem in the shape of Ballyliffin has been lined up for our members next year," he said.
