SIX Ballymoney Blaze volleyball players have been called up to the Northern Ireland squad for the School Games National Finals in England later this month.
Sarah Scott, Ellen Gilmour and team-mate Milenka Rygielska will get the chance to play on the biggest sporting stages for junior athletes in Great Britain.
Also making the trip is Joshua Park, Peter Smith and Luke Pollock, and ex-Blaze players Mary Parkash, Sarah Hadden, Cara Telfer and Imogen Thompson.
The competition gets underway with an Olympic-style opening ceremony at Loughborough University next Thursday with 1,600 teenagers set to take part.
Telfer said she was aiming to make the most of being selected for the team. "The 2012 Olympics over in London were really inspiring because it shows that determination and hard work pays," she said. Those who have experienced the School Games, albeit in a spectating capacity, include Dalriada student Scott.
“I have been to watch twice before to support my brother," she said, "so to get the chance to compete there myself is a great feeling. I really can't wait."
