Rained off Sunset Rally under threat thumbnail

THE cancellation of last week's Sunset Stages Rally due to torrential rain that left forest roads impassable has led to doubts being raised about its future.
The Met Office revealed that 65 per cent of the average rainfall for August fell within a nine-hour period with the North West of the province hardest hit.
Stretches of the route organisers from Magherafelt and District Motor Club intended to use were left unrecognisable as a direct result of the freak deluge.
During a follow up inspection they came across a number of crater-sized holes, with their decision to call it off backed by MSA Steward, John Richardson.
Speaking to Chronicle Sport, club spokesperson Mary O'Kane said going forward uncertainty now surrounds its Targa event and Tour of the Sperrins Rally.
