BALLYCASTLE'S Charles Stuart made history at the weekend when he became one of the youngest riders to be crowned Irish Superbike Champion.
The Queen's PhD student continued his remarkable run of success on the short circuit scene by picking up a title for the third consecutive season.
It comes on the back of the twenty-six-year-old's F1 Superbike triumph from 2015 and Mondello Masters Superbike Cup success from last season.
Stuart and Mark Glasgow were the only two who had a mathematical chance of winning the Irish Superbike Championship at St Angelo on Saturday but when Glasgow crashed out the destination of the trophy was sealed. "At the beginning of the year winning the title seemed a long shot," he said.
“I had a few silly crashes due to set-up issues with the bike and that really set me back, it knocked my confidence a bit, but I made some changes and since then I have been on the pace and winning regularly. I always felt this was a learning year, so to win the series is an unbelievable feeling.
