Ballymoney Firsts draw to remain top

Thursday, 22 February 2018

BALLYMONEY'S First XI travelled to Rainey on Saturday with the game played on fast indoor carpet. This ensured a lively game at Meadowbank, with both sets of players finding it hard to string passes together.
Five minutes into the game Elle Kirgan won Ballymoney their first short corner of the match, which was saved by the Rainey goalie who produced a fantastic display all game. The opposing team fought back by winning a penalty corner of their own on eleven minutes, but the resultant effort was deemed too high.
Ballymoney again went on the attack and a well-timed ball from Suzy Browne was released to Jan Hamilton who was able to break through the Rainey defence and draw in the 'keeper before slotting the ball home to open the scoring on fourteen minutes. The visitors continued to dominate in attack and were unlucky when another short corner strike was well saved by the Rainey 'keeper.
A lack of concentration for Ballymoney led to Rainey being allowed to fire a ball up the pitch which the travelling defence failed to clear. The follow-up shot was pounced upon and the goal tricked into the net.
Ballymoney went back on the offensive but the Rainey goalie pulled off another superb save from a short corner.
