Engine swap for junior driver McErlean thumbnailJosh McErlean’s Ford gets a new three-cylinder engine for Belgian round.

MH Motorsport will fit a fresh engine to the Ford Fiesta R2T Josh McErlean will drive on Rally Ypres, writes Jason Craig
The car lost power on the penultimate stage of the first round, denying  McErlean a podium finish.
In an attempt to avoid a repeat, the team has secured a replacement engine for the trip to Belgium. McErlean will drive the Ford this week to make sure everything is sorted before Friday's opening leg.
The M-Sport-built car has been blighted by reliability issues in recent months. Most of the trouble surrounds the durability of the three-cylinder unit's turbo, but McErlean insists his luck will change.
“After the disappointment of the Pirelli Rally, the MH Motorsport guys are pulling out all the stops," he told Chronicle Sport. "We'll get the opportunity to run in the new engine during our pre-rally test.
“The test is taking place in France but we're using roads with similar characteristics to that which will make up the rally route. That should really help us find the perfect set-up for the Fiesta on Tarmac."
McErlean is making his debut on the classic Belgian meeting with Aaron Johnston but reckons he can still give a good account of himself on the next round of the MSA Junior British Rally Championship.
