Rowers hoping to make waves at international junior regatta thumbnailBann Rowing Club’s Ruth Carson and Coleraine Grammar School pupil Molly Curry will represent Rowing Ireland at this month’s Coupe de la Jeunesse.

TWO local teenagers will be among the thirty two-strong Rowing Ireland panel heading to the Coupe de la Jeunesse junior rowing regatta at the end of the  month.
Following various trials, Coleraine's Molly Curry and Ballymoney's Ruth Carson  have been whittled down from hundreds of hopefuls from across Ireland for the annual competition.
The Coleraine Grammar School pupils will compete  in a number of races during the course of the three day event, which takes place  in Cork from July 27 to 29.
The UK, Spain, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark and France, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal and  Switzerland  will be represented on the waters of  Inniscarra Lake.
Curry and Carson will be hoping to deliver winning performances at both an individual and team level as Ireland goes in search of its maiden Coupe de la Jeunesse victory.
To date, the meeting  has only ever been won by Great Britain, which has fourteen wins to its name, followed by Italy which has eleven, and France which has eight.
“These athletes have already showcased so much passion, dedication and skill during trials and training, that podium finishers or not, they are our winners," said Rowing Ireland's Chief Executive, Michelle Carpenter.
"This has been one of the most competitive years we have witnessed as far as selection is concerned, with many excellent athletes fighting for their spot."
On the domestic front, Carson represents Bann Rowing Club, while Curry is part of Coleraine Grammar School's rowing team.
At sixteen, Curry makes history as she is one of the youngest people to pull on the green and white jersey at this level.
